Last week Daniel & Beshara, P.C. released maps and data showing the levels of crime with which many City of Dallas low-income renters, including housing choice voucher holders, must bear.  In most cases, residents endure living around crime brought by those not living in or near their homes. While the City of Dallas faces increasing levels of violent crime, renters have been subjected to these conditions for years well before Mayor Johnson’s December 3, 2019 city-wide demand for the City Manager to produce a plan to fight violent crime. At no fault of their own many low wage residents, who would choose to live elsewhere if given the choice, have been steered to neighborhoods with such under-addressed conditions due to public and private decisions. The DBPC maps are available for use by housing choice voucher holders and other renters who are in the midst of their housing searches.
